It is important for brahmin community to maintain dharmic customs alive in day to day activities. Anyone who claims to be devotee of Maha Periyava or associates himself to Kanchi mutt or Sringeri mutt, will be true to himself only if he keeps up this minimal duty.
There are lot of spiritual lifestyles open for a samskaaric brahmin, which also guarantees decent material perks also.
For example, one can choose to become a Sanskrit scholar or carnatic musician or bharatanatyamexponent or master Tamil books and Thevaaram.
These options allow us to stick to our roots. It gives us respect, remuneration and at the same time intention to practice detachment .
Though putting our ward in vedic patashala is the best option, it will be difficult for our materialistic mind to choose that immediately. These are via media professions which help us to carry on our values to next generation .
Even these options are looked by us as very remote because, we have left all our customs and study only to earn money. We prioritise job and studies over aachaaram.
It is very very important that those forgotten dharmic duties are again practiced by men and women at home with bhakthi.
We have one Dushyanth Sridhar now, who braved to lose a corporate job for dharmic profession or practice. It could have been only possible because of the presence of brahminical aachaarams and following nithyakarmas by parents.
Thus though we cannot dream anything different for our kids, giving a dharmic environment at home will allow kids to choose a different stream with confidence .
Instead of fighting for our rights and worrying about fate of hindu dharma, if every brahmin chooses to do his sandhya vandhanam and follow other aacharams as shown by our elders, we will be giving a great gift to future generations and also to Hindu dharma.
It is not too late my friends. Catch hold of dharma. For great saints lived for that alone.
Jai Gurudev!!
